When I was a kid I was dreaming of being a professional football player. To be able to look back to amazing years– from my youth in Greifswald to the national team, playing at clubs likes Hansa Rostock, FC Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid – is something that makes me proud.
More than the trophies means to me that I was able to add my way of understanding the game into all the teams I played in. To grow through the sport as a personality, to receive endless support from all over the world and to be able to do something good to other people shows me that it was right to put so much effort into my goal to become a professional football player.
